History
The Common Calendar is a Marenthian-driven reform of the Elven calendar (Elven Reckoning), which was the predominant calendar in Veracia prior to the wide adoption the Common Calendar. The Common Calendar establishes Marenth as the starting point for a Human calendar. This is denoted with a p.Ma. (preceeding Marenth) or f.Ma. (following Marenth). I propose a common Human calendar, dividing our years into four seasons of equal length, each of which is further divided into four equal months, divided into equally sized weeks of six days each. The last remaining day will stand on its own as celebration for the turn of the year. The calendar shall start from the founding of Marenth, the undisputed capital of the Human world. -- Lydus Tempus Severies, 123 f.Ma.
Initial reception to the calendar was initially lukewarm at best, even so outside of the Kingdom of Marenthia. However, through sweeping reforms, the calendar soon became widely adopted within Marenthia. And while other dominions might not have agreed to do so at first, they were forced to start using the calendar whenever trading with Marenthia. By the time it had reached the status of Empire, its influence was unmistakable and even the Elves were forced to start using the calendar, at least parallel to their.
